Who It's For

Ideal if you want dimension without obvious regrowth and colour that looks good every day. Great for anyone who prefers fewer salon visits and an easy routine.

Works on most hair from dark blonde to brunette and can soften early greys or blend previous colour. Suitable for straight, wavy and curly textures.

Duration & Appointment Timing

Allow around 3 to 3.5 hours, depending on your starting shade, hair length and thickness. First visits may take a little longer to agree your plan before we start.

A consultation is required to establish your plan with our colourist.

Aftercare & Maintenance

Use colour safe shampoo and conditioner, a weekly hydrating mask, and heat protection when styling. For cooler blondes, a purple shampoo can help maintain tone.

We recommend refreshing 3 - 4 times annually.

Protect your colour from UV and chlorine on holidays, rinse after swimming, and keep heat styling moderate to preserve shine and condition.

I’ve been getting my hair done at Butler & Lawler for a while now and it is always a great experience. Yvonne is a master or colour, even when it’s growing out it still looks natural, and Debbie couldn’t give a bad cut if she tried, she’s also great with tips on how to manage your hair at home. Yvonne and Debbie are also really good company and conversation flows easily. I don’t know the rest of the staff so well but everyone is polite and friendly. I always get nice compliments about my hair after a visit to Butler & Lawler and can highly recommend the salon.

As always I have a head of hair that is perfectly coloured by Yvonne. As Yvonne will not do anything that she does not feel will look good on you.

I have been benefitting from the hair care of Yvonne and Debbie for more years than I care to remember. I am always welcomed as a crazy haired woman, with awful roots, and I am turned out time after time with a gorgeous hairdo that is just right for me!! Thank you wonderful ladies.

I have been going for years. Everyone so friendly and professional. Excellent service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is balayage and how is it different from foils?
Balayage is painted freehand for a softer blend and a more natural grow out. Foils create even, defined highlights from root to tip. Your stylist may combine both methods, using foils for lift where needed and freehand for a diffused finish.
Is balayage suitable for dark hair or grey blending?
Yes. On darker hair it adds depth and light in the right places without harsh lines. For early greys, balayage can soften and blend them, though full grey coverage usually needs a root tint. Your stylist will tailor the technique, lift and tone to suit your hair and goals.
Will balayage damage my hair?
Lightening changes the hair, but the process can be planned to protect strength and shine. Your stylist will work at a suitable level of lift, use professional care, and recommend home care and treatments. Good aftercare keeps the cuticle smooth and the colour looking fresh.
Do I need a consultation or skin test before my appointment?
For first time colour or after a long gap, a consultation is recommended to agree shade and maintenance. A skin test may be required at least 48 hours before colour services. This keeps you safe and ensures the planned formula performs as expected.
How long does balayage last?
Balayage is very much tailored to the individual and will vary. Usually we recommend refreshing 3 to 4 times a year.
